Warner Bros. Pictures released the following statement on the record-breaking worldwide debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 :

With an astounding estimated worldwide box office total of more than $476 million, Warner Bros. Pictures Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 shattered multiple domestic and international box office records in a history-making opening weekend. The announcement was made today by Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, Dan Fellman, and President of International Distribution, Veronika Kwan-Rubinek.

Sam Rockwell in Talks for Better Living Through Chemistry

Variety reports that Sam Rockwell ( Iron Man 2 , Moon , upcoming Cowboys & Aliens ) is in talks to star opposite Jennifer Garner in Occupant Films’ Better Living Through Chemistry .

The trade says that “Rockwell will play a meek, small-town pharmacist stuck in a loveless marriage who rediscovers himself by starting an affair with a trophy wife, to be played by Garner. After she introduces him to the pleasures of prescription drugs, things spin out of control when they begin plotting to kill her husband.”

Michelle Monaghan plays Rockwell’s wife in the film, while Judi Dench is narrating.

Geoff Moore and David Posamentier wrote the script and will make their directorial debut.

Sean Bean Joining Tarsem Singh’s Snow White

“Game of Thrones” star Sean Bean is in final negotiations to play Snow White’s father in director Tarsem Singh’s Untitled Snow White Project , which is currently shooting in Montreal.

In the Relativity Media film, an evil Queen (Julia Roberts) steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled princess (Lily Collins) enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal. The film also stars Armie Hammer as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

The movie is scheduled for a March 16, 2012 release.

UPDATE: Potter Sets Opening Day Record with $92.1 Million!

After setting a new midnight record with over $43 million, Warner Bros’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 looks to have beat the previous single day and opening day records of $72.7 million held by Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon .

According to ERC Box Office , it has grossed $92.1 million in its opening Friday including those $43.5 million from midnight shows and its well on its way towards an opening weekend that should easily surpass the current record held by Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight . Christopher Nolan’s anticipated Batman sequel opened on the same weekend three years ago to the tune of $158.4 million in three days, a record that’s held steady even with the last two “Twilight” movies having bigger opening days.

Tom Cruise Confirmed for One Shot

Tom Cruise has signed to play Jack Reacher in Christopher McQuarrie’s One Shot at Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. Filming is expected to start in early fall.

The project is based on a series of novels written by Lee Child that center on Reacher. “One Shot” is the ninth book in the series and is described as follows:

New Total Recall and Underworld Preview Images

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly includes preview images for Sony Pictures’ Total Recall and Underworld Awakening .

Total Recall , directed by Len Wiseman, is currently filming for an August 3, 2012 release. The new story involves the nation states of Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side. Vilos Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.
