The Very Best of the Bob Newhart Show: The Doctor Is In
ByDescription
As Dr. Bob Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show, Bob Newhart was above all else a “funny listener” and nowhere was he better able to do this than in his group therapy sessions. For six critically acclaimed seasons, Dr. Hartley and friends engaged in hilarious discussions of private neuroses, from fear of flying to fear of humidity. The four episodes in this set celebrate the range of the show’s humor and the extraordinary writing that made The Bob Newhart Show one of America

The Bob Newhart Show, was (and still is) one of the smartest, funniest, and classiest comedies in television history. This edition, consisiting of four episodes focusing on Bob’s interactions with his group therapy patients, contains some wonderfully funny episodes. “Battle of the Groups” is my favorite of the four. Bob’s two groups decide, against his better judgement, to go on retreat together. As expected, the two groups end up competing for everything. The presence of Bob’s wife, Emily, further complicates the situation, as does Mr. Carlin’s propensity for streaking. Each of the four episodes is well written, well acted, and quite funny. Despite being almost 30 years old, the show and its characters are timeless. Still, only a few episodes of the show have ever been released, even on VHS. In view of the tendency to put more television series on DVD, my one question is why The Bob Newhart Show has not yet been released on DVD?! It would certainly occupy a prominent place in my video library.
