Will you watch “10 p.m. NBC Line-up with Jay Leno” Talk Show (first guest: Jerry Seinfield) on Sept. 14?
ByWhat do you expect?
Here’s some background info from LA Times TV reporter/columnist:
Fans of “Tonight” should expect some big changes. Leno will largely abandon the traditional late-night host’s desk and act as a kind of roving emcee on the car-themed set (the host is a dedicated auto and motorcycle nut), introducing the work of a team of comics who will go out in the field to tape pieces. Each show will have just one guest: Jerry Seinfeld is scheduled for the premiere, with director Michael Moore, whose new film “Capitalism: A Love Story” is about to debut, booked for the second show. Leno says he intends to use musical acts sparingly, because viewers today have so many other outlets in which to hear their favorite bands.
But many familiar bits will remain. Leno will still do his monologue at the top of each show. And he’ll close with his famous “Jaywalking” or headline segments, which will lead directly into local news.
NBC executives dismiss the notion that Leno’s new gig is robbing the industry of jobs. “The Jay Leno Show” will have a staff of 22 writers who belong to the Writers Guild, which is far more than the typical drama, the network points out. The show will produce 230 episodes a year, as opposed to 22 episodes for the average drama, which means the writers will be employed longer. And the show will be locally produced in Burbank, thus preventing the flight of jobs to Vancouver, Toronto or one of the other out-of-state locations where many scripted series are now shot.

i frankly think nbc has cut it’s own throat. i think they are going to be sorry that they granted leno all this time. the first stupid move nbc made was cancelling one the only shows it had that actually got a sizeable number of viewers, that being the show Medium. cbs wisely picked up this gem and they will be glad they did. i’m not into the vampire shows, but if i were the networks of true blood and vampire diaries and i wanted to really take out leno, i would pit the vampire shows against leno. cbs already has the best shows and the ones that will be against leno, notably CSI NY and The Mentalist, are going to be enough to make nbc sorry they ever did anything this idiotic.

I expect it to be lame and derivative — he is not appealing with his repetitive style of joke telling / stand-up;
I am looking forward to the other networks’ 10 p.m. line-ups — my wife will be watching though for nights Leno is doing “Headlines” before the 11 p.m. Eastern local news here in our time zone

Yes I will. Jay is great but I’m worried that the show could be cancelled at some point because he will be opposite even some good shows on NBC affiliates like USA. The show has to be toned down in prime time because young people might still be watching where they weren’t awake for The Tonight Show usually.
I know that he has some great guests coming on the new show, and that at least one of his cars will be used this week.
His monologue is always good, I love the way he tells serious news stories then sweetens them up with a joke. Jaywalking is always cool.
I can’t understand why he couldn’t have stayed on The Tonight Show, he was beating Letterman all those years and so many people love him.
I heard that they put him in primetime because a talk show is cheaper to produce than an hour long drama, but Jay should be making big bucks with all the talent and experience he has.

I will watch it. He was on the football game last night and spoke of the show. He is a funny guy, so let’s hope he has some success.
